When an Ocean Separates You

“For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.” (Psalm 33:4-6)

My soul aches for the devastation taking place in my home country. From natural disasters, to horrendous gunmen, to friends struggling, so much has happened that I have not been able to be there for. On the other hand, a terrorist attack took place here that left my family worried about me.

It is difficult to be divided by miles of ocean from all of your loved ones especially in times like these. No matter how much I wish I could be in two places at once, I just can’t. It would be so easy to let this gloom fill my mind.

Yet, I feel peace. I am realizing that the same God who stands by my side in England is also standing beside all those I love and those who have lost so much. He is the only constant and the only one who can completely overcome evil.

I’m falling in love every day with this place and that I serve a God not bound by time, space, or evil. During these dark days, I will continue to lean on him, spread his love, and grow personally in this amazing country. Today, I choose to smile.
